	Bondole Jean (1368-1381) Dutch artist who headed the French royal manuscript workshop at Paris. He worked under Kings John the Good and Charles V of France. His work there consisted of miniature as well as large-format painting such as cartoons for tapestries. His figures are painted mostly in a technique known as grisaille, a monochromatic form of painting in shades of gray. Bondols grisaille figures are set against colored backgrounds to achieve contrasting effects and sharp tonalities, along with intense colors of red, sharp orange, blue, or green.
