de Gelder Aert (1645-1727)
Dutch painter, the last and most talented of Rembrandt`s pupils and the only Dutch artist to paint in the tradition of Rembrandt`s late style into the 18th century. de Gelder dealt mostly with subjects from Old Testament. He painted with broad brushes, to put paint on canvas he used a brush handle and a palette-knife, to smooth the paint on canvas he used his fingers and scratched it with the brush handle.
