Schotz Benno (1891-1984)
Scottish-Jewish sculptor. Born in Estonia , he emigrated to Glasgow in 1912, where he studied engineering and sculpture. He created many portraits unique in their personal expression of turmoil, sensitivity and tension that exist in the human form. For decades the head of sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art, he was appointed Sculptor Ordinary for Scotland in 1963. He was also a fervent Zionist and was buried in Jerusalem.
